Osteopathy
What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a holistic approach to healthcare that supports your body’s natural ability to heal. Using gentle, hands-on techniques such as stretching, massage and manipulation, osteopathic treatment works with the body’s different systems (primarily the musculoskeletal, nervous and circulatory systems) to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, restoring proper function and alignment.
Osteopaths are highly competent healthcare professionals, recognised by the NHS as fully qualified to diagnose and treat independently.
How does osteopathy work?
Osteopathy works by addressing the musculoskeletal system – the body's bones, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues – to improve overall function and promote the body's natural healing processes. Using hands-on techniques like massage, stretching, and joint manipulation, osteopaths aim to relieve muscle tension, increase joint mobility, and enhance blood circulation.
Who can benefit from osteopathy?
Osteopathy is suitable for adults of all ages, ranging from athletes, pregnant or postpartum women, and the elderly.
What conditions can osteopathy treat?
Osteopathy can help treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions including:
General aches and pains: including muscle and joint discomfort
Back and neck pain: often related to posture, driving, or office work
Joint problems: including pain from arthritis
Sports or manual labour related injuries: including muscle strains and imbalances
Headaches and migraines: particularly those originating from the neck
Postural problems: associated with work, driving, or pregnancy
Circulatory issues: osteopathic techniques can improve blood flow and lymphatic drainage
Other conditions: including sciatica and digestive issues
