Paediatric Osteopathy

What is Paediatric osteopathy?

Paediatric osteopathy refers to the practice of osteopathy on babies or children. I use cranial osteopathy vs classic osteopathy, which applies gentle and non-evasive techniques such as massage, stretching, massage, articulation, which to treat a wide range of paediatric problems — from feeding and latching issues, to sleep disturbances and musculoskeletal issues.

What conditions can paediatric osteopathy treat?

Osteopathy can help treat a wide range of paediatric conditions from conception to early development, including:

  • Musculoskeletal Issues:

    • Torticollis: A stiff neck, often a result of tension from birth or the womb, can be released through gentle manipulation.

    • Plagiocephaly (Flat Head Syndrome): Osteopathic techniques can help improve head shape and mobility.

    • Joint Pain & Growing Pains: Muscle and joint stiffness can be eased to improve comfort and movement.

    • Posture & Developmental Delays: Osteopathy can support healthy development and correct postural concerns.

  • Infant Discomfort & Feeding:

    • Colic, Reflux & Digestive Issues: by addressing tension in the diaphragm, spine, and pelvis.

    • Feeding difficulties: releases tension in the neck and jaw can make feeding easier for some babies.

    • Sleep disturbances: osteopathy can help improve a baby's ability to relax, which can lead to better sleep.

    • Tension & irritability: gentle, hands-on techniques can release tension and help babies feel more comfortable and relaxed.

    • Birth trauma: osteopathy can address strains or tension that may arise from the birthing process.
